For a Shar-Pei named Hoosier, life almost took a horrible turn. When his owner could not handle the dogs untrained enthusiasm, the owner took Hoosier to the pound to be put down. Luckily the staff were able to intervene and Hoosier found a new owner that was willing to work hard with the dog and now they have a great relationship.

Bad breath in a pet is something to pay attention to.

If your pet has bad breath, your vet can start the process but you will need to help at home also. Brushing your pet’s teeth is just as important as brushing our own. Brushing will help keep the puppy or kitty kisses as enjoyable as possible, but bad breath can also bee a sign of dental concerns that you should have your vet check for. Many pets can develop dental diseases by the age of 3. Be proactive and speak with your vet to see what they recommend to keep you pet healthy and happy.

This year a cute little Pekingese named Malachy won best in show at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show held at Madison Square Garden in New York. At 4 years old, this is his 115th best in show title overall.

New advertisement in Britain is going to the dogs. No, really.

People in Britain this week got to see the first ever advertisement that was directed at the dogs, not the dog owners. The commercial used ultra high frequency sounds to attempt to get a reaction from the family pet towards the images on the screen. The home owners, seeing their loved fur ball staring at an image of a tasty treat might just want to get that for their dog. It will be interesting to see what other advertisements might start using techniques like this.

Some of the greatest photography helps us see familiar things in a whole new manner. Photographer Seth Casteel has found a new way of photographing his furry friends as they leap into pools.

Seth’s photography has a greater purpose though. He works very hard to bring attention to animals that need homes and help. He donates a significant amount of time and money working to help rescues and shelters find homes for pets and uses his photography as a tool for that cause. He founded Second Chance Photograpy, a non-profit, to help further his mission of saving animals.

There are so many options for pet products these days, but many pet owners would rather spend a little more to ensure that they are getting a healthy (even organic) option for their furry friends. Many stores are carrying a number of options, but ask your veterinarian what they suggest to be sure that you are meeting all your pets dietary needs.

With rules, that is. Many people find that having dogs in the work place can be a great way to relieve stress and encourage socialization, of both the dogs and the owners. Setting some boundaries and guidelines will make the experience better for the animals and your co-workers though.

The Everglades are having snake problems!

The Florida Everglades is being over run by non-indigenous snakes that are often released by pet owners. The snakes are currently depleting the natural species that were plentiful in the are previously.
